Recent US CD releases from SonyBMG and EMI not only prevent copies being made from copies and only three copies being made from the original but they won’t transfer music to Apple’s iPod as the underlying DRM is Windows-based. As the two sides stand off, the customer in the middle is being used as a pawn with one unnamed label exec saying “maybe they’ll email Steve Jobs”. Nice to know that the music industry’s answer to DRM incompatibility is to squeeze the purchaser of music into trying to force one side to bow to the other, great customer experience … not.
