Apple is also riding the Live 8 wave this week with Paul McCartney and U2 producing a download of their version of Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in just 45 minutes after broadcast on Saturday 2 July, a record turnaround time for a track. The song, never performed live before, remains the top-selling download priced at £1.50 through iTunes UK, all the performing artists, except for Pete Doherty, are experiencing a big lift in sales in both physical and digital formats. Profits from the Sgt Pepper downloads will go towards the Live 8 cause.

The BBC recorded the track, sent it through to Universal Music who mixed and digitised the track and then made it available to iTunes.
