The UK’s embrace of digital music is gathering pace with the mainstream press now swinging into action. The Times has published a 30-page supplement dedicated to the joys of digital music, coupled with an iTunes giveaway with five tunes on offer every week for the next eight weeks. Part of the supplement included a piece called Digitise the soundtrack to your life with a refreshing ‘it’s simple’ approach and better still the first example was a woman – women have been noticeable by their absence in digital music coverage in the press.

However, balance was restored as The Net column in the same paper wondered if the iPod was creating a generation of loners. Shame, really as digital audio players are all about controlling your environment – journeys to work etc – and not about shutting yourself off from the world, a subtle but important difference.
