Today is the day for long-promised digital music services … here’s Yahoo! with an audio search tool that will pull out audio files as well as other related music content. It’s not the first, Singingfish for example, has been around for some time. The music search uses the Yahoo! Music Service, which is in beta in the US, with results organised so that the most popular version of a song (or artist) is displayed higher up the page.

Users will be able to search the estimated 50 million music files on the Internet as well as those from Napster, iTunes and Rhapsody as well as Podcasts and NewsCasts and early reports describe the service as ‘slick’.

Silicon has muchos detail.

Audio search will be a major addition to digital music services as will lyrical searches as and when they appear.
