Though the road ahead is somewhat unclear, market researcher Generator estimates that Europeans will spend $1.8 billion on mobile music by 2010. $640 million on full-track downloads to mobiles ad $1.2 billion on realtone ringtones, the combined figure would account for 15% of Euro music sales – currently both formats account for 3.4%. Adding mobile to other music services could mean 39% of music sales would come through these channels within the next five years. An extremely optimistic estimate and I’m not sure they’re not counting oranges and bananas to add up to limes.
