Brad Duea, Napster president, is slamming mobile operators over their business model where users are buying ringtones, or realtones, for more than the cost of a full track download. A neat segue into Napster’s proposed mobile/subscription service but sadly ignoring the fact that ringtones and digital music downloads are completely separate musical beasts. People’s relationships with their mobiles and ringtones etc is completely different from how they regard their music and how they consume it, Duea got a nice PR spin out of it but won’t win many friends at a time when the company is trying to convince mobile operators to adopt Napster’s white label mobile music subscription service.
