Real Networks has received in excess of US$740 million from Microsoft in settlement for the dispute between the companies regarding the clash between Real Player and Windows Media Player on the Windows desktop. $460 million is in cash but equally important is the commitment from Microsoft to spend $301 million in promoting Real Rhapsody in the US.

It’ll be interesting if this injection of cash will finaly push Real into launching its Rhapsody service in the UK, which has been ready to go for in excess of two years and when compared head-to-head with other digital music services (DMS) comes out favourably with its strong editorial content, self-build radio stations etc.
