Copy-protected CDs are something of a hot potato at the moment, so little wonder that Apple instantly distanced itself from EMI’s claims that its copy-protected CDs will work with iPods very soon. “Apple is nearly finished with the technical work necessary to enable consumers to transfer music from content-protected discs to their iPods,” EMI said in a statement. “This is an important step for EMI and Apple, but even more so for music consumers who will soon be able to legitimately port music from protected discs they own to the iPod.”

But

No sooner said than Apple fired back that the statement wasn’t true and that “we have no idea why EMI made this statement.”

Hoping for some positive news around protected CDs perhaps?
