Well, if you believe Forbes, then Google is preparing a music download service to rival Apple’s iTunes. Analysts quoted in the report, who of course would have a vested interest in Google’s share price climbing even higher, see it as a logical next step following the roll-out of a video service. Personally, I think Google would be smart to let the coming shake-down of digital music services take place and then pick through the rubble, taking some valuable lessons along the way. Major issues such as price point, compatibility, DRM and whether there is simply a business in it need to be resolved yet.
