For the first time, the UK singles chart is topped by a track that has sold no, repeat, no physical copies! Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy, championed by Kiwi Zane Lowe on Radio 1 and used as the backing for ad for his show has sold more than 31,000 times through all digital outlets. The chart rules were altered so thta digital copies not only counted as single sales but also could be sold in advance of physical copies (by one week) and so we find ourselves with Crazy at the top of the pile. 31,000 copies is a very low total to make number one – the days of 100,000 sellers are long gone – but it is a significant marker on the road for digital music.
