EMI, probably the most engaged of the major music labels, has signed an agreement with Mashboxx, the legal peer-to-peer music service. Mashboxx, headed by former Pressplay CEO Mike Bebel, has been gestating for some time in order to get both its technology right but more importantly wait for the labels to come round to a legal P2P way of thinking.

If the music business is to evolve, it has to move beyond the current mindset and processes. Mashboxx, PlayLouder and most longstandingly eMusic, and other digital music services are holding the door open for the labels, they just need to step through.
