While the most excellent LastFM is doing a sterling job of offering social music activity based around your listening habits and those connected to you, it’s been joined a by a small search company in compiling music usage – Google. Google’s tracking is based on its Google Talk product and the tracking is optional, as is the personalised search data – might want to watch that one boys.

Coming out of the Google Labs, the end product currently is a simple top 20 chart, which given the likely breadth of contriutors’ taste unsurprisingly falls bang down the middle – Coldplay, James Blunt etc. Certainly one to watch if/when Google decide to build it out.
