MP3s are back in the news again this week, not that they ever really drop out of view and remain the top music-related search through many a search engine.

On the plus side for MP3s, the Bare Naked Ladies have joined the MySpace.com initiative to sell MP3 music through its wall garden of happy social networkers. A big name band but without a big name label and a manager who’s spoken often of his antipathy for DRM.

Meanwhile on the west coast of the US, the big labels were once again dismissing MP3 as a format for big music sales as speaker after speaker at an industry shindig questioned why they would “give away” their “property”.

Plus ca change.
