Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne has repeated his call to the music industry to revise its business model and practices. Byrne has predicted the ascendency of digital to the extent that it will overtake all other formats by 2012. Indeed, he wondered whether the major labels would need to start looking as recordings as the loss leader while other revenue streams fill out their business.

Speaking at the industry shindig South By Southwest, Byrne also questioned the role of DRM in the digital future and why there is a difference in the royalty structure between physical and digital music sales.
