P2P service Limewire has been working towards full-blown legitimacy for some time and has made a big leap forward with a full DRM-free digital music service. Users can download through the Limewire client and also through an online store.

Predominantly from indie labels, Limewire is offering more than 500,000 tracks at 256 Kbps, which is pretty good but not matching the ‘freebies’ on offer.

Alongside the downloads is a subscription service bringing the average price of a track down to as little as 27 cents, starting point is 99 cents US. It matches pretty closely the eMusic model but without the depth in catalogue and it’s only in the USA, for now.
