appstore_hero20081217The App Store provides an excellent barometer to the health of the iPhone world and Apple took the opportunity to move some attention away from Steve Jobs’ health and onto the state of the iPhone. Half a billion application downloads show that the iPhone is easily matching the growth of the iPod world a few years ago and that the iPhone is a very serious player. It was only a month ago that the download mark was set at 300 million, four weeks later and with 15,000 apps on offer, the billion mark should come by late spring.

To be fair, it is a small computer with a phone rather than a smartphone. Even so, the iPhone has delivered on the promises made by Mr Jobs only a couple of years ago. Would be great to have Flash compatibility though…
